cutting edge programme for chronic pain
Wednesday 20th May 2009 from 09:30 - 12:30hrs
Registration from 09:00 - 09:30hrs
Would you like to find the answer to the patients you struggle to be able to help?
Would you be interested in learning about a cutting edge, evidence based programme for chronic pain?
Have you ever wondered why…….?
Your patients often get better even though they still have abnormalities on MRI scan.
Sciatic pain believed to be due to a ‘slipped disc’ sometimes swaps sides.
Some people have pain that keeps moving around.
85% of people with back pain have no clear pathology.
Figures are still rising for musculoskeletal conditions, despite the introduction in 1992
of H&S Display Screen Regulations and EEC Regulations for Manual Handling.
Did you know………?
‘The discovery by MRI of bulges or protrusions in people with low back pain
may frequently be coincidental’ New England Journal of Medicine (1994) July 14 Volume 331:69-73.
Whiplash is unheard of in Lithuania!
All these findings will be answered at this half day seminar in Huddersfield on 20th May 2009 by Physiotherapist Georgie Oldfield MCSP, who runs the Pain Relief Centre in Huddersfield. Based on the life’s work of Rehabilitation Specialist, John Sarno MD from New York, Georgie will explain the development of the Tension Myoneural Syndrome concept and present her own clinical audit on the TMS Programme she herself has been running since visiting Dr Sarno in November 2007.
Seminar content:
• Neurophysiology, psychology and cause of TMS symptoms and it’s many manifestations.
• An overview of the diagnosis and treatment of patients with TMS and how the information may help your own chronic pain patients.
• Case studies will be presented plus research supporting the TMS concept, including a recent retrospective clinical audit completed at the Pain Relief Centre showing 84.6% of 26 patients who had had pain for an average of 5 years made over 80% recovery.
This seminar will be applicable for anyone who treats patients/clients with chronic pain including; back & neck pain, whiplash, arthritis, sciatica, OA, Fibromyalgia, RSI, Hypermobility Syndrome and undiagnosed pain.
